Statement
In this technological world, we are provided with the luxury of immediacy, but I have found that we have traded something in through the process. As humans, we urn to be seen with unrequited and unconditional love.
I cast individuals into sculptures that are visually reminiscent of a shrouded body sustained in time. The process of casting them creates a sacred moment and space away from the false urgencies of everyday life. The outcome is a hyper-realistic rendering of their body in the way that they sleep. The casted individuals are able to then visualize for the first time the way that others see them which one could argue contributes to a different understanding of the self.
Contemplative and intimate conversations after the process are then compiled into testimonial videos projected onto their sculptures. My drawings are the immediate response to the time spent with these individuals. They resemble faces, but retain an ambiguousness to them as to elude to the drawings being perhaps a mirror. I aim to be a facilitator and cultivator of intimacy and vulnerability, by utilizing these mixed medias as a catalyst for conversations we often are too afraid to have.
